Looking at Retirement

Looking at Retirement

In every business comes the time to look forward to retiring from running it. This is a unique time for the business owner. His approach towards the business must change. He must realize successor management must be trained and be ready to take over. It time for the business owner to become a mentor rather than an entrepreneur. It also time to seriously be thinking of:

  • Retirement - how much is enough?
  • How is the continuity of the business going to work?
  • Protecting those hard earned retirement dollars with a proper long term care program
  • Estate Planning
Looking at Retirement
Benefits that should be considered Discussion
Life Insurance  It is time to do estate and business continuity planning. If you have already done some of this planning, it maybe time to tweak it so that you have a definite path for selling the business when you reach retirement.
Disability Income Always make sure you have adequate disability income. Many top companies allow a conversion from disability income to long term care insurance.
Long Term Care Make sure your LTC plan is proper. Now would be a good time to investigate a limited pay plan such as a 10-pay. Get your LTC paid for during your working years and use business dollars to avoid income taxes. Read about Long Term Care.
Prepaid Legal See above your Prepaid Legal membership will go with you through your life.
Retirement Plan Load it up even if you intend to sell the company. You do not want your future retirement based on the success of a company that you no longer manage. At best, have a purchase agreement for your company supplement your retirement instead of counting on it as your full retirement income.
